College Residency PrograM

Empowering College Students Through Service, Training, and Opportunity

Dayton Fire District College Resident Program

The Dayton Fire District College Resident Program is designed for college students pursuing careers in fire service or emergency medical services who want to gain real-world experience while continuing their education. This program allows residents to live and train within the district, serve alongside firefighters and EMS personnel, and build practical skills that align with their academic and career goals.

Whether you are working toward a future as a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, or other emergency services professional, the resident program offers a strong foundation through training, mentorship, and hands-on field experience.

Program Benefits

The College Resident Program is built to reduce barriers for students entering the fire and EMS professions while providing meaningful opportunities for professional growth.

Residents receive:

  • District-provided housing while attending college

  • Monthly reimbursement to help offset living expenses

  • District-funded EMR and Firefighter training

  • District-supported EMT training

  • Hands-on experience in a working rural fire district

  • Mentorship and operational exposure alongside experienced fire and EMS personnel

Residents become part of the Dayton Fire District team and gain firsthand exposure to the fire service's daily operations. Through station life, training, emergency response, and mentorship, residents develop a deeper understanding of the responsibilities, expectations, and professionalism required in emergency services.

This program is designed to complement a student’s educational pathway by connecting classroom learning with practical field experience.

Dayton Fire District is well-positioned for students attending Chemeketa Community College, with convenient access to the Brooks, McMinnville, and Main Salem campuses. This proximity allows students to continue their coursework while living in the district and gaining valuable experience in fire and EMS operations.

The Dayton Fire District College Resident Program is an opportunity to serve your community, develop your skills, and prepare for a future career in the fire service.
